WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS TO THE SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY

O Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Grant many young men the generosity necessary to follow your call, and the courage required to overcome all obstacles to their vocation.  Give to parents, that faith, love and spirit of sacrifice, which will inspire them to offer their children to God's service, and cause them to rejoice when one of their children is called to religious life.
Let your example encourage both parents and children and let your grace sustain them.
Amen

MANY ARE CALLED... FEW ARE CHOSEN...

By Dr. David Graber, M.SS.CC. I know the title I have chosen for this article is somewhat overused when we think about finding vocations to the priesthood, but when you relate it to today's teens, the word "called" is the catchword. Look aroudn and it is hard to find a teen

who does not have a beeper or cellphone or is not sharing his or her e-mail address. It is amazing the number of young people who have their own telephone number. My point is, today's under 25 crowd knows what it is to be called... or do they?

Last year, our congregation began a program of exxtending an invitation to young men, usually high schoolers, to spend an evening of recollection at our Novitate, Villa Pieta in Linwood. This past December 21, the Villa hosted fourteen area teens who had demonstrated that they had possible experienced a feeling of indeed a "call" to be a priest or brother. I invited several students from the high school where I teach and Tom Salerno, the Youth Director at Our Lady Sorrows parish, staffed by our Missionaries, also invited several more to join the group.
