Although the temperature hovered near 98 degrees under
a blazing sun, members of the congregation along with invited guests
gathered to break ground signaling the beginning of construction on
the Missionaries’ House of Studies in Fairfield, Pennsylvania. Fr. Malcolm
MacLeod, Delegate of the Superior General and Regional Superior, along
with Fr. Michael Messaro, Formation Director presided at the ceremony
which began with a prayer service. |

Work

Also in attendance were Fr. Robert McDade, Spiritual Director of the
Development Program and Vice Rector of
Villa Pieta and Fr. Sigfried Troche, Associate Pastor of St. Mary’s
along with two Novices, Peter DiTomasso and Fidelis Ikefuama. All
gathered to lift a shovel of earth in the long awaited official groundbreaking.
The land for the new building was purchased shortly after
our Missionaries assumed the staffing of St. Mary’s Parish in Fairfield
and St. Rita’s in Blue Ridge Summit in the Diocese of Harrisburg a
little over 10 year ago. The location is adjacent to the church
and rectory in Fairfield and is under 10 miles from Mt. St. Mary’s
Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD where our seminarians are
studying.
Residence in the House of Studies will allow the formation
program to be an on-going day to day reality. In the past, students
