Fr.
Josef Bato, M.SS.CC. was featured in an article in our Spring 1996
newsletter with the inspiring story of how he had returned to his
homeland of Slovakia after years of working in South America. He
was eager to begin a house of religious studies in Slovakia after
seeing the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe.
Tragically, Fr.
Bato was killed in an auto accident in 1998 and the house was closed.
However, the Slovakian students took up their studies in
Rome with the hope that the dream of Fr. Bato could be kept
alive. |

Fr. Ondrej Sabo and Fr. Pavel Panak ordained in September of 2002
and were have now returned to Slovakia and reopened the congregation's
house in Zilina. Currently they are working in hospital ministry
and helping in the nearby parishes especially administering the
Sacrament of Reconciliation to the faithful. On September
13 three novices professed first vows and two more candidates began
the Novitiate. The Slovakian community is holding fast to
Fr. Bato's dream which is becoming a reality through God's grace. |
