I spent some time this past week speaking with those who
traveled with Fr. MacLeod on the Pilgrimage to Ireland we sponsored in
June. One aspect they all shared was the gracious hospitality and
friendliness of the Irish people they encountered along the journey. As
we have all seen in news reports, the USA has been drawing a lot of
criticism in Europe for some of its political actions. Our pilgrims
were cautiously hoping they would not feel the fall-out of this during
their overseas visit. It was refreshing and encouraging to both them
and me that when it comes to people to people….kindness and respect are
a personal choice. It is the underlying message of the Gospels; this
treating others, as we would like to be treated ourselves. A wonderful
ideal too often lost in most of the tragic conflicts we witness around
the world and in our own homes. May God help all of us strive to keep
this "Golden Rule" in action in all our relationships.
May the peace
and love of Christ fill your hearts,
Father Bob McDade, M.SS.CC.
