 IN MEMORIAM…. Fr. John Cavanaugh, M.SS.CC... Fr. John Cavanaugh, M.SS.CC. died February 22, 2006 after a brief illness, at age 83. Fr. Cavanaugh was born in New York City, the son of the late Patrick and Helen Cavanaugh. Fr. John entered the congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts in 1968 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1971. Before entering religious life he was employed as a teacher and social worker for the State of New York. He has served as Associate Pastor of Our lady of Sorrows in Linwood, NJ, St. Mary’s in Fairfield PA and St. Ignatius of Antioch, Yardley, PA. For many years he served as Chaplain at Our Lady’s Residence in Pleasantville, NJ. His most recent assignment was a Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Home for the Blind in Jersey City, NJ. The Chapel will serve the needs of the students who reside in the adjoining House of Studies but there are also plans underway to utilize the Chapel for Perpetual Adoration for the faithful in the area. The House of Studies is located in close proximity to St. Mary’s Church which is staffed by our congregation.
