Nigerian Community Dispensary begins service to villagers on November 10, 2014. Fr. Peter Morkah, M.SS.CC. reports that the first opening day of the new medical dispensary on the grounds of our Formation House in Owerri, Nigeria, was greeted by over 200 people seeking medical attention. The Dispensary is served by four volunteer doctors and a nurse from the teaching hospital in Orlu, each giving one day a week to the new dispensary. In addition a local pharmaceutical company is providing free medications as needed. Fr. Morkah and the priests and seminarians are deeply touched by the outpouring of gratitude from the villagers for establishing the dispensary and allowing them to get much needed health care close to their homes. Previously they were forced to travel by bus to the city and then often were unable to have the means to pay for treatment. Through the generosity of a private family foundation grant, local support and additional support from donors from the USA development program and the North American Delegation, this special project has been completed.
